Overview

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Department of Automotive Engineering, in the field of Electric Vehicle Energy Storage, Optimisation and Control. The research is in collaboration with a major partner from the automotive industry, the battery industry and academia, and will focus on the derivation of control-oriented models of a novel battery technology and the development of advanced control and estimation algorithms for the real-time optimisation of a novel electric vehicle battery system.

We may make an offer before 02 January 2014 if a suitable candidate is found.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the post must have a first-class or upper second-class degree in engineering or a related area. An automotive engineering background would be a distinct advantage as would experience with electric or hybrid vehicles, mathematical modelling and feedback control theory

Funding

Studentships will be paid a tax-free stipend of at approximately £13,700 p.a. for 3 years, plus tuition. This is subject to any eligibility criteria imposed on us by our funding body. Due to funding restrictions the funding is only eligible to UK or EU natioanals.

Doctoral Training Centre

This higher research degree is associated with our Automotive Doctoral Training Centre (DTC).

A tailored programme of seminars and events alongside the generic core skills training programme, provide those studying a research degree with a wealth of social and networking opportunities with Cranfield’s wider research community.
