Bradford Dementia Group are pleased to invite applicants for a PhD studentship in end of life care for people with dementia in care homes which will contribute to our internationally recognised portfolio of applied research on dementia. The studentship is funded by Bupa Care Services, who have a demonstrated commitment to leading the field in dementia care.
The proposed focus of the studentship is improving the quality of care and quality of life for people with dementia at the end of life in care homes. The work will link with existing research and practice development projects in care homes conducted by members of Bradford Dementia Group. The doctorate studies to be carried out under this studentship may include the following:
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop the detailed project proposal in light of further discussion with the project team.
The studentship will be supervised by Professor Jan Oyebode and Professor Murna Downs. Awards will be made for three years full-time study from January 2014 or an earlier date by mutual agreement.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and self motivated individual to contribute to further developing the University of Bradfordâs reputation in dementia studies.
The successful candidate will have a relevant post-graduate degree or an undergraduate degree with a 2:1 or 1st in a relevant discipline and will have experience of conducting research. Commitment to conducting applied research which will enhance quality of life and quality of care for people with dementia is essential. Experience of working within the care home sector and with people with dementia and their families would be assets.
The candidate will be well organised, able to work independently and as part of a team and have strong oral and written communication skills, suitable for a diverse environment.
The studentship covers UK/EU fees and provides an annual stipend of £13,726 p.a. for 3 years subject to satisfactory progress. Some funding is also available to cover research expenses.
