Project description: A PhD position is available at the University of Southampton as part of a joint experimental and theoretical project aimed at developing high harmonic generation as a probe of photochemical processes. The PhD student will be responsible for the experimental development and implementation of the technique which will be used to study prototypical chemical processes in a variety of systems. Analysis of the experimental data will be performed in collaboration with Dr Adam Kirrander at the University of Edinburgh who will be developing the theoretical models required to accurately model the dynamics of the system and the effect of the measurement process.
The project is funded by the Leverhulme trust for 3 years and welcomes applicants from the UK and EU who have or expect to obtain at least an upper second class degree in Chemistry or Physics. Funding will cover fees and a stipend at current research council rates of £ 13,726 per annum.
