In partnership with DePuy and EPSRC, the University of Leeds wishes to recruit an outstanding engineering or physical sciences graduate who wishes to embark on a career in medical engineering.
You will join the world leading Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, which houses over 100 graduate researchers and the largest experimental research facility in the world for joint simulation in a new purpose-built facility. You will work collaboratively with the research and development team of DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction based in Leeds, as part of a global research programme.
Supervised by Dr Sophie Williams, and co supervised by Dr Alison Jones (University of Leeds), and James Anderson (DePuy Synthes Joint reconstruction), you will research an image based fracture prediction diagnostic tool for avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
Start before 30 September 2014 for 42 months.
This studentship, which is open to UK/EU students in the first instance, will pay the academic fees at the EU/UK rate as well as providing an annual stipend of approximately £13,1726 per year (subject to increase in future years) plus an additional industrial contribution of up to £3,000.

Minimum academic requirements:
Applications are invited from candidates with or expecting a First or Upper Second Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) in engineering (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering), physical sciences (Chemistry or Physics) or applied mathematics. Applicants will be expected to work in a multidisciplinary environment and work closely with industry. The opportunity will be appropriate for graduates wishing to pursue a career in medical engineering and medical device technology. In addition, evidence of high levels of communication and team-working skills are highly desirable.
