Overview

Interested in clinical exercise research? This PhD project will explore the role of residual pancreas beta-cell function on the health benefits of exercise for people with diabetes.

This research will be examining how residual beta-cell function, and endogenous insulin secretion, influences metabolic, inflammatory and vascular changes with exercise in people with diabetes. A range of exercise physiology and biochemistry methods will be employed. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to work across themes in both the Diabetes Research Group and Movelab, within the Institute of Cellular Medicine.

Eligibility Criteria

You must have, or expect to achieve, a 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in a subject relating to exercise science, including: Sport and exercise science, biomedicine and nutrition. A further qualification such as an MSc or MRes is advantageous.

The award is available to UK/EU and international applicants. If English is not your first language, you must have IELTS 7, with at least 6.5 in the written component, or equivalent.
