EPSRC Centre for Power Electronics

The Control and Power Group has research in many aspects of power electronics, power systems, and control systems.  We are part of the new EPSRC Centre in Power Electronics, which includes research themes in devices, components, converters and drives and have extensive new lab facilities for power electronics.

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in Component Integration.

PhD in Component Integration: Investigation into intelligent gate drives powered by wireless power delivery and is part of the EPSRC Centre Components theme.  Such devices are of particular interest in HVDC systems to improve reliability and ease construction and improve start up capability.

Applicants should have a first-class or upper-second MEng honours degree or a BEng honours degree with a Masters degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; knowledge of modeling, power electronic design, simulation, construction at test; circuit prototyping, knowledge of test and measurement techniques; proven ability to use Pspice and Matlab/Simulink, proven ability to construct power electronic circuits and able to present work in a professional way.

The studentship provides a bursary to cover living expenses of £16,500 (tax free) per annum for up to 3.5 years, together with the College tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. Due to funding restrictions this is available for UK or European students.  For a description of the Control and Power Research Group please visit our website at http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/controlandpower.
