The project:
A PhD studentship is available for three years within the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group in the School of Experimental Psychology, supervised by Professor Marcus Munafò, Dr Angela Attwood (School of Experimental Psychology) and Professor Matthew Hickman (School of Social and Community Medicine). The studentship will investigate the impact of glass design on alcohol consumption, following previous work from our laboratory indicating that social alcohol drinkers consume an alcoholic beverage 60% slower from a straight-sided glass compared to a curved beer flute.
The Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group is part of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit, and the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies. This studentship is funded through the NIHR School for Public Health Research in Bristol (led by Professor Rona Campbell in the School of Social and Community Medicine), and is part of a wider programme of research on alcohol harm and prevention with linked projects at the Universities of Cambridge and Exeter. The student will be part of a large and supportive research environment, well suited to those with an interest in the translation of research into practice and policy.
Further details are available on request. For informal enquiries please contact Professor Marcus Munafò (marcus.munafo@bristol.ac.uk) or Dr Angela Attwood (angela.attwood@bristol.ac.uk). Applicants wishing to be considered should submit their CV and a covering letter to Professor Marcus Munafò in the first instance.
