£14,000 tax free annual maintenance award, tuition fee waiver (home/EU/Overseas)
A fully funded PhD studentship is available in the Faculty of Technology at De Montfort University to work in the area of Long-Term Pavement Performance Modelling. The research will be supervised by the Pro Vice-Chancellor/Dean of Technology, Professor Collop, and will be undertaken in collaboration with researchers from the University of Cambridge (Professor Cebon) and the University of Nottingham (Dr Isola).
The project builds on extensive previous research undertaken by Professors Collop and Cebon on vehicle-pavement interaction that has recently resulted in the development of a new user friendly software architecture that can be used to model the interaction between vehicles and pavements and the effects of vehicle loading and environmental factors on pavement performance and life. The structure of the software is modular to allow additional software components to be easily developed. The focus for the project will be on validating the existing software and developing new modules to extend its applicability in areas such as flexible composite pavement structures, skidding resistance and stripping and durability.
The successful candidate should have a good first degree (first class, upper second class or equivalent) in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with a strong mathematical background and good computing abilities.Â
Further information can be obtained from Professor A.C. Collop (acollop@dmu.ac.uk) and applicants should submit a cv together with a covering letter and contact details for two referees to Professor A.C. Collop before the closing date of 5th July 2013.
