Stipend £15,792 per annum + UK/EU fees
The Department of Chemical Engineering at University College London (UCL) is seeking an enthusiastic Graduate Student to work on the molecular modelling of nanoporous materials.
The project will involve the development of novel QM/MM (Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics) modelling approaches for the study of nanoporous materials in environmental separations, catalytic processes and gas storage. Potential areas of application include CO2 capture, hydrogen storage and water purification. This project will be carried out in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Amsterdam.
The post holder will be required to carry out computational research on the development of novel QM/MM (Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics) approaches applicable to the study of nanoporous materials in environmental separations, catalytic processes and gas storage. The post holder will also write-up and present the results.
The candidate will have or be expected to obtain an excellent first degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or an associated discipline. Ability to analyse and solve open-ended engineering problems and develop simulation methodologies is essential. Since the project will involve scientific code development, demonstrated programming with C language is desirable. Previous experience in molecular modelling methods (e.g. Molecular Dynamics, Monte Carlo, Quantum Chemical Calculations) is desirable but not required. Effective written and verbal communication skills, time-management skills and ability to work in a team are also important. Due to funding restrictions the post is open to UK/EU citizens only.
