Applications are invited for a research studentship in the field of Nanoparticle Synthesis & Characterisation, leading to the award of a PhD degree. Â The post is supported by a bursary and fees (at the UK/EU student rate). The studentship is for 3.5 years and due to funding restrictionsis available for UK and EU candidates.Â
The aim of this work is to perform experimental investigations of the formation of ceramic nanoparticles in turbulent flames, established on a suitable burner. The environmental conditions under which the particles are generated in the flame will be characterised by means of modern laser diagnostics. Â The generated particles will also be characterised, in-situ by suitable laser diagnostics as well as ex-situ by means of electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Â The project will be performed in close collaboration with a research group at ITV Stuttgart, Germany, that will model the synthesis process.
You will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who meets the academic requirements for enrolment for the PhD degree at Imperial College London. Â You will have a background in Physics, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field and an enquiring and rigorous approach to research together with a strong intellect and disciplined work habits. Â The applicant should have a strong interest in nanoparticle synthesis or combustion research and in the development and application of laser techniques and you should not be afraid of experimental work. Â You will become a skilled communicator who is comfortable in an international situation. Â Good team-working, observational and communication skills are essential.
