The studentship covers a fee-waiver for those eligible for home/EU fees and an annual stipend of £14,000 with an annual incremental increase. Applications are welcomed from students with a first or upper second degree in Education, Social Sciences or Social Policy and who have, or are currently completing, a Masters degree with a Research component.
Applicants should have experience of qualitative methodologies, demonstrate creativity in their approaches to data collection and have knowledge of the place of evaluation in public policy. Â
Applicants are requested to upload a sample of their research writing of no more than 3,000 words in length when applying.
This studentship is connected to the Models of Universities-Schools Engagement (MUSE) programme, funded by the EPSRC, which extends public engagement at the University of Strathclyde to secondary schools, by actively involving pupils, teachers and local communities in live research projects.
This research project seeks to evaluate the success of the initiative, primarily from the perspectives of participant schoolsâ pupils and teachers. The first aim will be to establish whether MUSE has been successful in developing knowledge and understanding of academic research activity and related skills among pupils and teachers. The second aim of the project is to investigate the changing perspectives on and orientations to research in school communities. The third aim is to contribute to an understanding of successful University-Schools engagement. The study will involve empirical qualitative data collection with academics, students, teachers and pupils and analysis of secondary data sets re pupil destinations.
