A PhD position for 36 months starting from 1^st Oct. 2013 is available within the Applied Optics Group, School of Physical Sciences. This is supported by KentHealth initiative and will tackle a multiple beam optics interface for microscopy of the eye.

The applicant must have a good background in theoretical and experimental optics and expected to have graduated in Physics (Optics) or Electrical and Electronic Engineering. We are looking for highly imaginative and self-motivated individuals with expertise in cameras, fibre optics, digital signal processing. Prior experience of LabView or C++ and skills in interfacing I/O boards are essential. The applicant will be paid a stipend at the EPSRC rate per year, reviewed in October of each year.

The Applied Optics Group, where the student will be based, has recently moved into a new state-of-the-art facility and is incorporated into the Photonics Centre, as part of a University-wide initiative to co-locate all Optics research under one roof. The School of Physical Sciences is situated in a newly refurbished science laboratory on the Canterbury Campus of the University of Kent, one of the top universities in the South-East.
