Project description
The School of Marine Science and Technology at Newcastle offers one Natural Environment Research Council sponsored PhD studentship from October 2013. Applications are welcomed for one or more of the following projects (please note that only one award for one project is available):
1) How does surfactant photo-reactivity impact air-sea gas exchange?
2) Do surfactant compositional differences affect air-sea gas transfer?
3) Atmospheric CO2 from the Tyne River catchment.
4) Photodissolution of suspended particulate organic matter in coastal waters.
5) Macroalgal dissolved organic matter and its role in the coastal carbon cycle.
6) Integrating ecological knowledge and multi-resolution datasets of seabed areas to improve information on benthic habitats for Marine Protected Area planning.

A full award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and an annual stipend of £13,590. Please check that you meet the NERCâs eligibility requirements for fees and maintenance as defined on NERCâs website. (UK citizenship, or at least 3-year residency for EU nationals).
Candidates should possess (or be about to obtain) at least an upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant area (eg Marine Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, Environmental Science) and should only apply if you meet NERCâs eligibility requirements.
