A PhD studentship in molecular simulation of bacterial membranes is available in the group of Dr Syma Khalid (http://www.personal.soton.ac.uk/sk2x07/index.php)
The project involves employing atomistic and coarse-grain molecular dynamics simulations to study the diffusion, aggregation and conformational dynamics of proteins that reside in bacterial membranes. The membranes that protect bacteria are the first physical barrier encountered by drugs that attempt to enter the cells, and therefore understanding their structure and dynamics is imperative from a biomedical perspective as well as being an interesting chemistry problem due to their inherent complexity.
The project is funded through the ICSS Doctoral training Centre and due to funding restrictions  is for UK and EU students ONLY.
