The BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials in the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering at the University of Bath is seeking eligible applicants for a fully funded PhD studentship available for a start date of October 2013. The PhD project will develop scientific understanding in the use of low impact natural building materials for the passive control of indoor environmental quality, through hygro-thermal behaviour and the capture of volatile organic compounds. The work will combine novel experimental characterisation and performance testing with heat and moisture modelling. The studentship is fully funded by the BRE Trust and cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and a stipend of £15,000 per annum for 3 years full-time study. The studentships also include an allowance for travel and subsistence as well as some funds for project expenditure to acquire essential materials and minor equipment. Candidates should have a first class or upper second honours degree in engineering or a closely related applied science discipline or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant experience.
