Nutrition and Bone Health Group, Department of Nutritional Sciences, University of Surrey

The Nutritional Sciences Department within the School of Biosciences and Medicine at the University of Surrey is offering a full-time doctoral (postgraduate research) studentship in Vitamin D and Health starting in January 2014.  The studentship will cover tuition fees, and provide maintenance at EU PhD Scholarship rates and are for UK/EU citizens only, due to funding restrictions.

We are looking to recruit an exceptional doctoral (PhD) student to join our EU-Funded Vitamin D Project (ODIN - Food-based solutions for Optimal vitamin D Nutrition and health through the life cycle), which will investigate Vitamin D Requirements in Teenage Boys and Girls aged 14-18 Year Through a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) . 

The Department's PhD programme comprises approximately three years of full time study during which you will undertake a structured, supervised programme of scholarly research leading to a thesis that makes an original contribution to knowledge and is of a standard appropriate for publication in high-quality refereed journals.

As a member of the ESRC funded South East Doctoral Training Centre, the School of Biosciences and Medicine offers excellent research training and the opportunity to be part of a vibrant research community that shapes agendas of scholarship and practice.

The successful candidate will have or expect to be awarded a good first degree (First/Upper Second or equivalent) in Nutritional Sciences. They will have outstanding research potential and enthusiasm to pursue research in an area consistent with the School's research expertise.
