The Dark Matter group from the University of Sussex is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on the DEAP-3600 dark matter direct detection experiment. The group at Sussex is responsible for delivering the tools, operation and analysis of the optical calibration of the experiment.
The studentship is shared with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, and the applicant is expected to spend 18 months there to work on the operation of a prototype for the DEAP-3600 experiment under the daily supervision of Dr Pawel Majewski.
The student will help develop the optical calibration hardware, including hardware design, Monte-Carlo simulation and analysis of the relevant data. The student will also be directly involved in the dark matter analysis.
This project is jointly funded by the School of Mathematical & Physics Sciences and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

Award amount £13,726 tax-free bursary per year, plus a waiver of UK/EU fees, for three years
Eligibility Candidates must have a first class degree in Physics or equivalent qualification and good knowledge of particle physics. Experimental experience or Monte-Carlo experience is advantageous.
Candidates from UK/EU countries are very welcome to apply. This award is open to Overseas students, but additional fees would be payable by the student or another sponsor of approximately £11600 per year.
