Industrially sponsored by BAE Systems, Boeing, Meggitt and Thales within the IVHM Centre, a studentship of up to £17,000 per annum (tax free) plus UK/EU fees* is available
We are seeking a high calibre engineering or science graduate to undertake an exciting research and development project leading to the creation of diagnostic systems that account for uncertainty, this work leads on from research conducted over the last five years. This PhD vacancy is within the Integrated Vehicle Health Management Centre, which is led by world leading researchers from Cranfield and aims to develop the next generation of IVHM systems for aerospace, rail, energy and health sectors.
Nature of research project:
Building on previous research, this PhD project aims to develop a methodology capable of quantifying, from an engineering perspective, the errors within the design phase of the health management development process (errors within measurements, data processing, system modelling, algorithm development for fault detection and fault identification) and the propagation of errors throughout various points of the development and implementation of health management solutions. With this knowledge, the diagnosis of component or sub-system degradation can be made more accurately and hence preventative maintenance better targeted.
Entry requirements:
Suitable applicants will be expected to have a First or Upper Second Class honours degree in a relevant engineering, control or physics based discipline. Previous experience in health management or diagnostics would be an advantage.
