Award: 3 year PhD including student fees at the UK/EU rate funded jointly from the European Community Marie Curie scheme, and by a UCL Impact Award.
Project: Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship in the Department of Cognitive, Perceptual and Brain Sciences, University College London, under the supervision of Dr Samuel Solomon. The studentship is funded for 3 years, jointly from the European Community Marie Curie scheme, and by a UCL Impact Award. The aim of the PhD project is to investigate the functional properties of sub-cortical visual pathways in awake mice. The successful student will join a growing group of neurophysiologists in the department who study vision, audition and spatial navigation in rodents (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/psychlangsci/research/CPB). The laboratory is well equipped for neurophysiological and computational research including multi-channel electrophysiological recording and behaviour in head-fixed and freely moving animals.
Entry requirements: Applicants should have a good upper second or first-class degree in a neuroscience discipline (e.g. neuroscience, psychology, biology). They should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. A relevant Masters degree and neurophysiological experience would be an advantage.Â

Award type and eligibility: The studentship covers tuition fees (UK/EU rate) for the PhD; a stipend (£15,590 per year) and a contribution towards research costs, training and conference attendance. All remaining research costs will be covered by additional funds of the supervisor. The position will start on 1st December 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.
