Project outline
An exciting opportunity is available starting 30 September 2013, for a fully funded full time PhD studentship to develop novel imaging biomarkers for cancer.
Estrogen receptor-a is expressed in most breast cancers, and patients with ERa-positive (ERa+) tumours have longer overall survival and better response to hormone based therapies. The Progesterone Receptor (PR) is an estrogen-regulated gene, and there is evidence that PR expression in response to ER stimulation is predictive of response to anti-estrogenic therapies. Although ER and PR status are measured immunohistochemically in current clinical practice, molecular imaging of this pathway offers the ability to assess the whole disease burden in a patient longitudinally, allowing the assessment of heterogeneity and changes in response to therapy that may inform clinical management. The aim of this project is to screen a library of putative PR binding PET imaging agents for use as imaging biomarkers, using a wide range of in vitro and in vivo techniques. The project will make use of the recently installed Bioscan PET/CT scanner at the University of Hull, part of the new PET Research Centre.
Applicants should be highly motivated and have:
