The CRUK and EPSRC Cancer Imaging Centre in Cambridge and Manchester is a new initiative that will combine expertise in the two Universities to develop non-invasive imaging techniques to improve the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of patients with cancer.
The Centre is a collaborative organisation, with its researchers and clinicians working in departments and institutes across the Universities of Cambridge and Manchester.
Eligibility: No nationality restrictions apply to these studentships. Applications are invited from recent graduates or final year undergraduates who hold or expect to gain a first/upper second class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from any recognised university worldwide.
Stipend: These studentships include full funding for University and College fees and a stipend of £19,000 per annum.
The following projects are available:
Finian Leeper (Department of Chemistry) and Kevin Brindle (Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute), Cell death detection using a targeted imaging agent.
Franklin Aigbirhio (Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre) and Dmitry Soloviev (Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute), PET imaging of oxidative damage.
Carlos Caldas (Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute) and Florian Markowetz (Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute), Correlating image heterogeneity with tumour genomics. Project abstract (see Further Information below).
Sarah Bohndiek (Department of Physics) and Kevin Brindle (Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute), MR imaging of tumour oxygenation and photoacoustic imaging of tumour oxygenation and cell death.
