The Department of Psychology at the University of Sheffield is offering *six* fully funded PhD studentships to start in the autumn of 2014. These include studentships associated with the department, university and external funding bodies, such as the BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC and MRC. The department also offers support with tuition fees for self-funding students. Psychology at the University of Sheffield is in the top five UK departments for research income. Of all psychology courses in the UK, Sheffield students with psychology degrees have the highest rate of finding employment within six months of graduating.
The competitive studentships can be held in any of the Department's research areas:
Studentships are typically offered for a period of 3-4 years and will cover the full cost of tuition fees for UK or European Union students and a living allowance of approximately £13,726 per annum. In addition, depending on the funding source, there may be a research allowance of £500 - £2,000 per annum. Students awarded a Departmental Teaching Fellowship (4 years) will be expected to undertake some limited teaching duties such as demonstrating in undergraduate psychology tutorials and involvement in the supervision of undergraduate projects. Overseas students are welcome to apply for funding but must be able to demonstrate that they can fund the difference in the tuition fees.
Applicants must have, or expect to obtain, a minimum of a first class or high upper second-class honours degree in Psychology or a related discipline. In general awards are usually made to applicants with first class undergraduate degrees and/or at least a merit at masters level.
