PhD Studentships in Cyber Security to start in October 2014

The Centre for Doctoral Training in Cyber Security at Royal Holloway, University of London, is now receiving applications for the 2014 cohort. We will be awarding 10 fully-funded PhD studentships (stipend and college fees for four years) to outstanding candidates to join the CDT in October 2014. Computing devices and data networks are an integral part of all our lives and, as such, the security of our computing infrastructure -- "cyber security"  -- is of crucial importance.  These studentships provide an opportunity to undertake research and training in a discipline that is both intellectually demanding and of wide applicability.

Royal Holloway's CDT in Cyber Security is hosted by the Information Security Group (ISG), one of the largest and longest-established academic research groups working in cyber security, with a community of 15 academic staff, 10 postdocs and 50 PhD students. The ISG has a wide range of research interests related to cyber security, including the basic components of security services, such as cryptographic algorithms and trusted hardware; management of cryptographic keys; the correctness of the design and implementation of security protocols; the design of security services for embedded systems, business information systems, telecommunications networks and critical infrastructure; the detection and analysis of malware; and the study of economics, psychology, organizational theory, design theory and sociology in the context of information and cyber security.

We will consider applications from candidates with undergraduate and masters' qualifications in a wide range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, mathematics, computer science, and electrical and electronic engineering. Funding is provided by the EPSRC (the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council), so full studentships are available to UK residents only (see http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/skills/students/help/Pages/eligibility.aspx for further details). Closing date for receiving applications is the 30th March 2014. We will however assess applications on an ongoing basis, and we reserve the right to make an offer to candidates before the closing date.

Informal enquiries about the studentships can be made to Dr Carlos Cid (carlos.cid@rhul.ac.uk). For more information about Royal Holloway's CDT in Cyber Security and to learn how to apply, please visit the CDT webpage at http://www.rhul.ac.uk/isg/cybersecuritycdt/home.aspx.
