Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake a project in immunometabolism. The project will focus on the role of cellular energy and intermediary metabolism in the innate immune response, and will also investigate the contribution of the inflammatory response to malignant transformation. The research will be based in the Centre for Molecular Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in cell biology or related subjects, as well as an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. Knowledge of cell signalling, cancer biology, inflammation, innate immunity and cellular metabolism will be an advantage. Experience in biochemistry, cell culture, molecular biology is essential, as well as appropriate publication record. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.

The post is full time for three years. Starting salary will be made in the Grade 4 Research Scale at £31,113 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Further incremental progression will apply upon the anniversary of appointment. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

The Barts Cancer Institute requires that applicants invited for interview will need to provide all certificates to confirm their qualifications (specified in the Job Description).

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
