This is a full time and fixed term post until 30 September 2015
Salary: £30,424 to £36,298 per annum
Working within the world leading Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, you will carry out research in the photonics communications research facilities at Aston University This will involve the collaboration with project partners with a diverse range of technical responsibilities.
You will be funded by a project which concerns the development of technologies and network architectures to enable new cost-reduced approaches to high capacity ultra-long haul optical networks. This will involve experimental and theoretical investigation of high-speed phenomena optical systems. Â You will build on recent world-leading advances in all optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing and phase sensitive amplifiers and will develop solutions to provide a Tbit/s super channel based wavelength routed optical network operating with a net information spectral density exceeding 4 b/s/Hz and a granularity equal to or below the sub-channel data rate.
Training opportunities will be provided to acquire appropriate and experimental and numerical research skills.
You should have (or expect to receive in early 2013) a PhD in a field closely related to Optical Communications, and a first or upper second class honors degree in Electronic Engineering, Applied Physics or related subject. You should also be able to travel throughout the European Economic Area.
