Postdoctoral Researcher (Cell Biology) Cell Cycle Regulation of Human Growth

£30,424 - £36,298

A postdoctoral researcher is sought for a three year post in Professor Andrew Jackson's group to investigate the cellular basis of growth regulation. We have identified 14 disease genes encoding fundamental components of DNA replication machinery, centrosomes and DNA repair signalling (Nat Genet 38:910; 38:917; 40:232; 43:23; 43:350, 43:356). The successful applicant will work on the cellular characterisation of novel human disease genes recently identified in the lab and on known genes to gain insight into their role in regulating cellular and consequently organism growth. This work will use conventional cell biology approaches, alongside stem cell model systems, including Crispr-engineered mES and hiPSC organoids. The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary ERC/MRC-funded group using molecular, biochemical, cellular and developmental approaches to characterise the function of human disease genes (e.g. Cell 149, 1008; Nature 501:373; J Cell Sci 120:3578).

Candidates must have a PhD or anticipate completing a PhD in the near future. You will need to demonstrate a strong track record and have previous experience in cell biology. Candidates with experience in DNA replication, cell cycle regulation and/or centrosome biology are particularly encouraged to apply.

The research group is a dynamic and enthusiastic internationally competitive laboratory, with 11 papers published in Nature/Cell journals within the last 7 years, and currently comprises 16 researchers. The lab's website is: http://www.ajackson.hgu.mrc.ac.uk

The MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine has facilities and expertise in a wide range of disciplines; more information on the research in the Institute can be found at www.hgu.mrc.ac.uk/Research/ and www.igmm.ac.uk. Informal enquiries can be made to Andrew.Jackson@igmm.ed.ac.uk or igmmhr@igmm.ed.ac.uk.
