REF NO: NCS031R
This project is part of a European Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN), entitled âEnvironmental Acclimation of Photosynthesisâ (AccliPhot), funded by the European Commission (EC) under Framework Program 7, call FP7-PEOPLE-2012-ITN. Marie Curie Research Training Networks aim to provide training and research experiences for researchers at the beginning of their careers by creating an opportunity to spend up to three years in another country as part of an international, high-quality research network.
We are looking for an excellent early stage researcher (PhD student) who will develop mathematical models of the photosynthetic electron transport chain in close collaboration with the experimental partners in our consortium. A main goal of the models is to understand how changes in light conditions affect electron transport and in particular to elucidate the role of state transitions in green algae â a process in which light-harvesting antenna are relocated between the photosystems. During the project, the student will learn and apply many different techniques in modelling and systems biology, including deterministic modelling using ordinary differential equations (ODEs), stochastic modelling using the Gillespie algorithm and global optimization for parameter fitting. During the networkâs training activities and tailored secondments, the researcher will study with internationally renowned experts on a range of state-of-the-art projects involving genomics, molecular biology, bioinformatics and mathematical modelling.
As this post is funded by the European Commission Marie Curie Initial Training Network it will be offered for a period of 3 years.Â
Salary will be paid at the rate of £31,745 per annum.
