Applications are invited from students with a 2.1 UK degree or equivalent in epidemiology, genetics  or bioniformatics for a studentship funded by the University of Nottingham.
The studentships will contribute to the study of genetic and epigenetics of osteoarthritis related traits (such as pain or specific x-ray features).  This is an observational study in which the genetic and epigenetic factors that contribute to osteoarthritis are being analysed using data derived from whole genome and whole epigenome analyses in osteoarthritis patients. The successful candidates will agree the details of their PhD questions in collaboration with their supervisors.Â
The studentships will be supervised jointly by Dr Ana Valdes and Prof Michael Doherty.
Based in the Division of Academic Rheumatology, Nottingham City Hospital, the students will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary team focused on furthering our understanding of osteoarthritis.
The successful students will be registered for a PhD; the studentships are available from 1 October 2013 for a period of three years and provides fees at the UK/EU rate, and a postgraduate stipend of £13,726 in year 1 with increments in line with Research Council Rates.Â
