Funded MPhil/PhD studentship starting January 2014
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and intellectually excellent candidate for a full-time MPhil/PhD studentship for three years from 1 January 2014. This is a National Science foundation funded studentship under the joint supervision of Professor Michael Reiss and Dr Tamjid Mujtaba. The project is part of a US-UK comparative study into the factors that contribute to successful entrance, matriculation and completion of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) graduate degrees by ethnic minority students.
Full details of the studentship research project may be found in this document.
You should have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in a relevant social science discipline. You will receive excellent training in doctoral research methods but will need to already be able to demonstrate abilities in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
The studentship includes full-time tuition fees for three years at the Home/EU rate* and you will receive a stipend of £15,726 (including London Weighting Allowance) for each of three calendar years.
The studentship is open to Home/EU students. Applicants who are assessed as International for tuition fee purposes are entitled to apply for this studentship, but will be liable for the payment of the difference between Home/EU and International fees.
Applications for both the studentship and for entrance to the MPhil/PhD programme should be made via our online applications system UKPASS: please select course code: P046279 PhD STEM Studentship.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Monday 25 November 2013.
Please note: as this studentship is attached to a funded research project you do not need to submit a separate research proposal.
