Studentship Recruitment, Retention and Development in Adult Social Care

The studentship will be located within Manchester Metropolitan University, Centre for People and Performance (http://www.business.mmu.ac.uk/cpp/) in the Faculty of Business and Law.

It will offer the opportunity to undertake research into worker recruitment, retention and development in adult social care (ASC) in England. ASC is of growing importance given the UK’s ageing population, yet little is known about employment in the sector. The appointed student will conduct analyses of an ASC sector dataset, the National Minimum Dataset–Social Care (NMDS-SC), in which care providers record details of employment conditions and employment outcomes. The student will undertake research which complements our existing analyses and the richness of the dataset provides plenty of scope for the student to do this in ways of interest to them.

Research questions could include:

  • To what extent do training and qualifications and pay influence patterns of recruitment, retention and development?
  • To what extent do patterns of recruitment, retention and development vary dependent on worker age?

Proposed supervisory team:

Professor Carol Atkinson, Director of the Centre for People and Performance

Dr Sarah Crozier, Senior Lecturer in Organisational behaviour

Further details on both can be found at: http://www.business.mmu.ac.uk/cpp/meet.php
