Applications are invited for two three-year PhD studentships jointly funded by the Department of Materials and the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). You should have a strong interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment, have a background in a relevant discipline (material science, engineering, or physics) and have an enquiring and rigorous approach to your work.
We will fund two PhD studentships out of the following four projects listed below:
Project one: Design and Manufacture of Small, Complex-shaped Ceramic Components
Project two: High Voltage Breakdown in Ceramic Insulators
Project three: Modelling the Pressing of Complex Multiphase Materials
Project four: Modelling of the interface between dissimilar metals including actinides under elevated temperatures and pressures
You will have an upper second or higher first degree or equivalent in materials or related discipline. These 3-year studentships will begin in October 2013. Funding is available to UK citizens only.  Studentships will cover tuition fees at the home/EU rate plus the standard maintenance stipend of £15,590 per annum. Applications will be processed as received.
