University of South Wales Doctoral Scholarship Portable brain computer interface for neurocognitive rehabilitation

The Medical Electronics and Signal Processing Research Unit is offering an exciting PhD studentship opportunity on a project entitled “Portable Brain Computer Interface for Neuro-cognitive Rehabilitation". The project aims at investigating recent developments in portable EEG to provide cheaper and portable rehabilitation tools for people with motor and cognitive disabilities often caused by conditions such as strokes. This will be achieved by using direct Brain Computer Interfacing (BCI) along with other biofeedback modalities to stimulate the brain’s natural neuroplacticity during rehabilitation.

Entry requirements: We are seeking academically outstanding applicants for this research studentship. The ideal candidate must have a first class degree (or Masters) in electrical engineering, computing, biomedical engineering or related areas with knowledge of programming and signal processing methods. Knowledge of basic brain physiology and EEG measurement techniques is desirable. Most importantly the candidate must have an enthusiasm and a natural curiosity for scientific research and technology. A minimum of an upper second class honours degree is required although the ideal candidate will be educated to Master’s level in an appropriate discipline. Due to funding restrictions the Studentship is open to Home/EU applicants only.

Bursary: The successful applicant will register for a full-time MPhil/PhD and receive a bursary of £15k per annum for up to three years (from which fees will be deducted, currently £3900 per annum).
