Anticipated start date for project: 1 October 2016 Closing date for applications: MA Funding 1 February 2016, PhD Funding 12 February 2016 Information about the project: The department of Music is offering two MA Home Fee Bursaries and two PhD Home Fee Bursaries for MA and PhD students commencing their studies in September 2016. Consistently ranked in the top-three Music Departments in the UK, the Music Department at Manchester offers an outstanding research environment for postgraduate students. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework confirmed our world-class expertise in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Composition and Electroacoustic Composition; our association with numerous professional ensembles provides unrivalled opportunities for composers to have their music performed; our state-of the-art studios provide world-class resources for electroacoustic composers; and our Thursday series of guest research seminars allow students to engage with cutting-edge research in Musicology and Ethnomusicology. The PhD bursaries come with the opportunity to teach or assist in research-related activities. The awards are usually for three years full time or six years part time (subject to satisfactory progress) for new starters. The MA bursaries are for 1 year full time or 2 years part time. These bursaries are open to both Home and International students. Amount of funding available and eligibility: MA Bursaries: The MA bursaries for the Victor Sayer Studentships for Music fund is the equivalent of 1 year of home/EU fees (full time) or 2 years of home/EU fees (part time) but are not restricted to home/EU students.
