The Lloyd-Dan David Fellowship in association with the Mellon Sawyer Seminar
Applications are invited for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship to work on the History of Cross-Cultural Comparatism. The successful applicant will be a fellow both of the Cambridge Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) and of the Needham Institute, and will be expected to play a full role in the intellectual life of both institutes. In the first year of the appointment the fellow will assist with the organisation and work of a Sawyer Seminar on the History of Cross-Cultural Comparatism. Applicants may work in any period or region or subject relevant to the history of comparatism, but the Sawyer Seminar will be focused on the role of ancient Greece and ancient Greek religion in the history of comparatism from antiquity through the Renaissance to modern anthropology, and an ability to contribute to one aspect of this project is desirable. The Fellow will be expected to participate in the workshops and the conference, and to complete a major piece of work that directly addresses the questions raised by the project. Applications are encouraged from any relevant field including but not limited to the history of religion, history of anthropology, history of disciplines, history of scholarship, intellectual history, cultural studies, history of law, history of science. Applicants should have completed a PhD by the proposed start date of October 2014; should demonstrate the ability to engage in high-level research in an interdisciplinary context, with publications and participation in scholarly activity commensurate with stage of career; and should have the ability and aptitude for organising and participating in collaborative research projects.
