Information about the project:
This PhD project offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of researchers at the University of Manchester, working on new electromagnetic method based on combined ground penetrating radar, metal detection and position measurement to help address the problem of metallic clutter during de-mining operations. The research is funded by the charity Find a Better Way.
Qualifications applicants should have/expected to receive:
Candidates must have a 1st or 2i in a relevant Engineering subject, such as Electronics, Physics or Mathematics. The ideal candidate will also have a strong interest problem solving with a have proven ability to tackle both practical and theoretical problems. The successful candidate will also have an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team with physicists, mathematicians, engineers, and to communicate research results to the key stakeholders.
Amount of funding available and eligibility:
A scholarship is available funded partly by the School and partly by the Find a Better Way charity depending on the candidate. For UK & suitable EU applicants (i.e. with 3 years UK residency) fees plus a £20k p.a. (tax free) stipend are available. For other EU applicants fees plus a stipend of £15k (tax free) stipend are available. For international students outside the EU, a stipend of £15k is available. In addition, the necessary travel and consumable costs associated with the research will be supported.
