Introduction:
Applications are invited for a fully-funded PhD research project âAdvanced Analytical Techniques for Mass Spectrometryâ at the EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Facility in Swansea University.
About the project:
This is an exciting opportunity to develop a career, working at the research councilâs National Facility. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers in the EPSRC NMSF (Dr Chris Williams) and the Institute of Mass Spectrometry (Professor Gareth Brenton and Dr Ruth Godfrey) within the College of Medicine to develop next-generation sample analysis and ionisation techniques for application to challenging chemical problems from internationally leading researchers across the UK. Â
The Facility recently won another five-year term until 2018; part of its activities is to support national and international research programmes. This PhD will support the advance of ionisation techniques for use in the National Facility and includes Flowing Atmospheric-Pressure Afterglow (FAPA) and Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe (ASAP). Applications of these techniques will be directed at cutting edge chemical research with leading international research groups covering materials science, nanotechnology, forensic and biomedical applications to name a few. You will learn a wide range of skills during your PhD training with ample opportunity for a wide choice of careers on completion.Â
The successful applicant will be based in the NMSFâs laboratories, under the supervision of Dr Williams, Professor Brenton and Dr Godfrey.
