You will undertake PhD research on mental health epidemiology as part of the MARATONE project and will beco-supervised by Professor Alarcos Cieza (Psychology) and Cyrus Cooper (MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit).
MARATONE (Mental Health Training through Network in Europe) is a Marie Curie Network for Initial Training (MC â ITN) for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs), funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme. This project is coordinated by Professor Alarcos Cieza, Psychology, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences.

You will gain experience in working with a group of international researchers of the highest standards and from the MARATONE âtraining though researchâ programme as well as the training activities offered in the PhD programme of the Academic Unit of Psychology and the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit.
You will complete a 33 month PhD on mental health epidemiology and undertake dissemination activities which include:
You will have a masterâs degree or equivalent in epidemiology, medicine, public health, psychology or statistics; excellent statistical knowledge; experience in analysing survey data and advanced English language skills (written and oral). Previous research experience in psychology or in a mental health related area, medicine, public health or epidemiology would be advantageous.
You must as part of your application attach a 2-page proposal for the PhD research that you are interested in pursuing.
Due to requirements stipulated by Marie Curie, to be eligible for appointment under this Scheme you (at the time of recruitment by the School) must not have been resident or carried out your main activity (work, studies) in the UK for more than 12 months in the past 3 years.
