PhD Studentship For Improvement Science supported by the Health Foundation:  Social Networks and Quality in Healthcare Commissioning: A mixed methods study of Clinical Commissioning Groups

The Centre for Health Innovation Leadership and Learning (CHILL) at Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) has been awarded funding by The Health Foundation for prestigious doctoral fellowships in the field of improvement science in healthcare.

The advent of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) offers the opportunity to investigate how particular types and patterns of social relationships between actors can contribute to high quality outcomes in healthcare. This PhD will draw upon Social Network Analysis (SNA), as well as other relevant social science theories and perspectives

The studentship covers tax-free living expenses of £25,000 per year, full tuition fees and up to £10,000 to cover the cost of travel to research sites and other expenses. The duration of the studentship award will be 3 or 4 years, depending on prior qualifications/experience. Due to funding restrictions, this studentship is open to Home/EU Students only.

The studentship is part of a collaborative programme of work between Nottingham University Business School’s Centre for Health Innovation Leadership and Learning and The Health Foundation

All Students should also have good knowledge of healthcare systems and an interest in healthcare improvement work. It is likely that the project will require both qualitative and quantitative research skills.
