Project description
This research is part of the new European Union funded project ROBOT-ERA: Advanced robotic systems for an ageing population (www.robot-era.eu).
The PhD student will carry out experimental research on human-robot interaction in the context of the use of robot companions for the elderly. This will include controlled experiments on the evaluation of multimodal interfaces for interaction with robots (speech, tablets, web) and on-site experiments on interaction with robots in elderly peopleâs homes and social care homes.
Eligibility
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a high grade Bachelors or Masters Degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science (with a human-robot or human-computer interaction focus), or related disciplines. The candidate must have a keen interest in robotics and computer technologies and a strong motivation to perform research. Previous experience with human-robot interaction experiments or programming for psychology experiments is desirable. Awareness of research methods and experimental psychology methodologies is essential.
Funding
The studentship will have a 3 year duration and consists of an annual bursary of £17,676 per annum. The successful candidate will be responsible for payment of their own tuition fees which will be £3,950 for Home/EU and £13,640 for Overseas students in 2013/2014. Fees are subject to annual review and will be at prevailing rates at the time.
