The Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship, a collaboration between the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and Chatham House, offers early-to-mid-career professionals a ten-month residency at Chatham House in the UK. Fellows will receive a stipend of £23,650 to cover living expenses in London, including accommodation, utilities, food, transport, and other essentials.
Established in 2006, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation (MIF) is dedicated to promoting good governance and leadership in Africa, recognizing their crucial role in improving the quality of life for African citizens.
During the fellowship, participants engage in the Institute’s core work, enhance their leadership skills through a specialized programme, and expand their professional network within the field of international affairs.
Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Open to citizens of any African country.

Applicants with dual nationality, including an African country, are also eligible.

Must hold a completed BA degree or equivalent and have research experience.

Ideal candidates should be in the early-to-mid stage of their careers and come from fields such as academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, or media.

Must demonstrate knowledge of and interest in international affairs, their research focus, and Chatham House’s mission.

Fellows are required to commit full-time to the program; therefore, the fellowship cannot be pursued alongside work or studies.
Benefits of the Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Fellowship 2025
Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of £2,365, covering living expenses in London, including accommodation, utilities, food, transport, and other basic costs.
Additionally, the Academy will cover reasonable expenses related to:

Relocation – Costs such as flights, train fares, transportation to and from the UK, three nights of accommodation, visa fees, and extra baggage.

Healthcare – Payment of the UK’s Immigration Healthcare Surcharge, granting access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). (Note: Dental, optical treatments, and prescribed medicines may require additional payments.)

Research & Outreach – Expenses for fieldwork, travel, conferences, publications, roundtables, and other professional events.
