Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Mathematical Modelling of Mosquito Control (2 posts)
Two Postdoctoral Research Assistants in Mathematical Modelling of Mosquito Control are available on a DARPA funded project to investigate the economics of different mosquito control strategies. Several advances have been made in the control of mosquito populations using conventional and genetic based methods. Understanding the implementation of these technologies requires the development of mathematical models to evaluate cost-effectiveness of existing and potential technologies. This project will focus on the rapid development of mathematical approaches for the analysis and interpretation of dynamical economic frameworks.
The main responsibilities will be the development and analysis of mathematical models for the control of mosquitoes using economic cost-benefit, optimal control approaches. It is expected that the applicants will have: i) significant and relevant research experience in mathematical biology; ii) an excellent record of research productivity, excellent oral and written communication skills; iii) be highly numerate skills and have the ability to solve problems under pressure; iv) excellent time management skills, ability to work under pressure to deadline; v) a PhD in relevant highly numerate subject.
Both posts are fixed-term for 1 year and will be based at the Department of Zoology, Oxford.
