The Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship is a fully funded program that provides comprehensive support, covering tuition, research expenses, workshop and conference fees, living costs (including a stipend and accommodation), a laptop, internship opportunities, and entrepreneurship training.
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation and several African universities, is offering the Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship.
The TAGDev 2.0 (Transforming African Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development) program aims to enhance universities and TVET institutions, equipping them to better serve communities by empowering Africa’s youth with the skills needed to drive inclusive, equitable, and climate-resilient transformation in agriculture and agrifood systems.
This scholarship is designed to support academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young Africans, enabling them to successfully complete their studies.
Eligibility Requirements for the Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship
To qualify for the Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Nationality: Must be a citizen of Uganda or any of the East African countries implementing the East Africa Higher Education Protocol (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan).
Economic Background: Should be economically disadvantaged, from marginalized communities, or from conflict and post-conflict areas in Uganda.
Age Requirement:
- Undergraduate applicants must be under 30 years old.
- Master’s applicants must be under 35 years old at the time of application.
Education Requirement:
- For undergraduate applicants, secondary school or diploma qualifications should have been obtained within the last two years.
- For refugees and internally displaced persons, prior studies should have been completed within the last four years.
University Admission: Must meet the admission requirements for eligible programs at Gulu University.
Academic and Leadership Potential:
- Demonstrate a strong interest in agriculture, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship.
- Exhibit leadership qualities and a commitment to community transformation.
Commitment: Must show a strong dedication to working in agriculture and agricultural value chains.
Encouragement for Female Applicants: Women are highly encouraged to apply.

Follow these steps to successfully apply for the Mastercard TAGDev Scholarship 2024:

- Complete the Online Application – Fill out the online application form and print a copy to attach to your university admission application.
- Access the Online RIMS Web Portal – Follow this link .
- Create an Account – Click on "Register Here" to sign up.
- Activate Your Account – A confirmation email will be sent to your registered email. Click the link to activate your account.
- Fill Out the Application Form – Click "Apply" and start completing the form. Be sure to save your progress by clicking "Save Draft" regularly.
