Applications Open: 2026 France Government Excellence Scholarship
The Embassy of France in Ghana is now accepting applications for the 2026 France Government Excellence Scholarship.
This prestigious scholarship covers:
- A round-trip air ticket
- Accommodation
- A monthly allowance
- Health and repatriation insurance
As part of the broader France Excellence program, the Embassy is also implementing the Séjours Scientifiques de Haut Niveau (SSHN), or High-Level Scientific Stays.
The SSHN program is specifically designed for academic and research staff who wish to spend a short-term stay at a higher education or research institution in France. It also serves as a key initiative to strengthen cooperation between Ghanaian and French institutions.
Eligibility Criteria – French Government Excellence Scholarship 2026
To be eligible for the French Government Excellence Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a tenured position at a public or private higher education institution or scientific research laboratory.
- Hold a PhD degree or be currently enrolled as a PhD student.
- Be a national of a country outside the European Union. Dual nationals holding citizenship of any EU country are not eligible.
- Applicants who earned their PhD more than five years ago are considered “confirmed researchers,” while those who obtained their PhD within the last five years are considered “young researchers.”
Scholarship Benefits – 2026 Cycle
The French Government Excellence Scholarship provides the following benefits:
- A round-trip air ticket
- A monthly living allowance
- Health and repatriation insurance
- Optional accommodation booking through Campus France Paris (rent is deducted directly from the scholarship grant)
Mobility Details
- Duration: 1 to 2 months
- Eligible Period: Mobilities must take place between September 1 and December 15, 2025, provided the host institution in France can accommodate the scholar during this time.
