This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary stem cell team working on differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells to 3D laminated retinae for cell based therapies, drug discovery and disease modelling.
You will work on transplantation of pluripotent stem cell derived retinal photoreceptor precursor cells on animal models of retinal degeneration and assessment of cell engraftment, functionality and restoration of vision. You will also be involved in ongoing projects in our group focusing on optimising culture conditions for generation of 3D retinal cups containing mature photoreceptors and assessing the role of key transcription factors to guide retinal differentiation to desired lineages.
A scientific background on pluripotent stem cell differentiation and retinal biology will be essential and applicants with track record and expertise in subretinal cell transplantation, functional assessment of retinal cell transplantation (optometry, electrophysiology etc), animal models of retinal degeneration and pluripotent stem cell differentiation to retinal lineages are preferred. You will work under the direction of the principal investigator and the post is available from the 1st of January 2017 for 17 months on a fixed term contract.
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Linda Lako (majlinda.lako@ncl.ac.uk)
