Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship in the Department of Cognitive, Perceptual and Brain Sciences, UCL, under the supervision of Prof Alan Johnston and Dr Isabelle Mareschal, Biological and Experimental Psychology, QMUL. The studentship is funded for 3 years from a project grant from the Leverhulme Trust. The aim of the PhD project is to investigate perception of temporal properties of facial behavior including the timing of mutual gaze. The successful student will be based in the UCL Vision Research Lab directed by Prof Alan Johnston at UCL. For more information visit the lab website:Â http://www.psychol.ucl.ac.uk/vision/Lab_Site/Home.html. The laboratory is exceptionally well equipped for research in human vision and computer vision with a number of psychophysics laboratories, a video suite for multiview facial action recording and a 128 core compute cluster running parallel Matlab for computationally intensive research.
Applicants should have a good upper second or first-class degree in a cognitive discipline (e.g. psychology, cognitive science, computer science). They should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. A relevant Masters degree and programming experience (e.g. in MATLAB) would be an advantage. The studentship will carry a stipend of £15,590 and will start on 1st October or as soon as possible thereafter. Due to funding, the successful candidate must be eligible for fees at UK/EU rates.
Applicants are invited to apply by e-mail to s.theodoric@ucl.ac.uk attaching a CV and transcripts where available and a one page supplementary personal statement explaining why they wish to apply for this studentship by the closing date of 12th August. The CV must state the degree class achieved (or the current average grade) and should also include the names and contacts details of two academic referees, who may be approached at the interview stage.
