Job Purpose The postholder will be involved in a research project investigating the response of HIV-infected children to initiation and withdrawal of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). Our group, together with that of Rob de Boer (Utrecht), forms the quantitative immunology arm of the EPIICAL consortium of virologists, statisticians and clinicians with expertise in pediatric HIV infection. Drawing on data from multiple clinical trials involving ART initiation and withdrawal in HIV-infected children, we will develop statistical and mechanistic (ODE) models to predict how an individual will respond to interruption of ART given his/her baseline immunologic and virological status. These models should be capable of capturing variation the kinetics of virus ‘rebound’, which likely derives from both stochastic effects as well as differences across individuals in the parameters governing the dynamics of the virus and the immune response to it. This post is based within the immunology research area of the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, working with Professor Andrew Yates (Principal Investigator). Standard Terms & Conditions Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 6/7, £27,328 - £30,738 / £33,574 - £37,768 per annum. The funding for this post is for 1 year in the first instance. New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months. The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits. All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
