Research Assistant - £26,537 (PhD submitted)
Based in theNorthern Institute for Cancer Research, this post is available to work on a major translational oncology research project and is an excellent opportunity for a researcher looking to develop a career in this area. The post/project focuses on medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumour of childhood. ‘Group 3’ tumours carry the worst prognosis of the medulloblastoma molecular sub-groups, yet their biological features are poorly understood. Our primary goal is to undertake integrated cross-species investigations to identify critical ‘driver’ events in their development. Comprehensive genomic, epigenomic and functional screening investigations (e.g. genome-wide CRIPR and siRNA screens) will be undertaken in extensive cohorts of human Group 3 medulloblastomas alongside novel mouse and human models of the Group 3 disease. Findings will be used to identify and prioritise critical therapeutic targets and molecular biomarkers for these tumours, which can be used to deliver improvements in outcome.
You will be educated to Masters level in a relevant subject and have experience and interests in contemporary cancer genomics, molecular biology, functional genomic screening and bioinformatics.
You will have excellent information technology and computing skills along with well developed technical and methodological skills.
The Institute holds a silverAthena SWAN award in addition to the University’s silverAthena SWANaward in recognition of our good employment practices for the advancement of gender equality, and the University holds theHR Excellence in Researchaward for our work to support the career development of our researchers.
