Applications are invited for a newly qualified postdoctoral Research Associate position working within the laboratory of Dr Brian Ferguson. The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is based in central Cambridge.
The successful candidate will undertake a research project investigating the interaction between DNA repair machinery, innate immunity and DNA virus infection.
Candidates should have a PhD, or expect to obtain one shortly and a track record of success in virology and/or immunology research. Relevant experience in genome editing, proteomics and cell signalling research is desired. Where the successful applicant does not yet have a PhD he/she will normally be under-appointed as a Research Assistant in a Research Associate post (on the understanding that he/she will be appointed as a Research Associate upon successful completion of his/her PhD). The higher Research Associate salary should be backdated to the submission date of their thesis or their start date, whichever is the later.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills are required. Other duties/responsibilities as outlined in the Further Information document include developing and driving research objectives, writing up work for presentation and publication, assisting in the supervision of student research projects.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 21 months in the first instance.
