South Kensington and White City Campuses
Appointment for 1 year
Applications are invited to work with Professor Philip J Parsons in the Department of Chemistry on the development and application of synthetic approaches to a range of naturally occurring molecules, with the target for further biological evaluation. Based on recently developed synthetic methodology in the group, these new reactions access such molecules that are of great importance to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The applicant must have experience in multi-step organic synthesis.
You must hold a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or have an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. The applicant must have experience in the synthesis of organic compounds, their characterisation, multistep organic synthesis, and the optimisations of structure activity relationships are essential. Experience in spectroscopic and other organic compound characterisation methods, handling air-sensitive reagents and supervising students in research laboratories is also essential.
It is essential you have practical experience within a research environment. The successful candidate will have a record of publications in relevant and peer reviewed journals and have an ability to direct the work of a small research team. You will have a creative approach to problem-solving, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. It is also essential that applicants are fluent in both Arabic and Turkish languages.
Experience of biology-driven medicinal chemistry, and of conducting reactions using techniques for the handling of air and moisture sensitive reagents would be an advantage. Skills in the isolation of natural products would also be desirable.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £31,740 - £33,370 per annum.
