Fixed term: 3 years, Start: On or before 1 October 2016.
We are seeking post-doctoral researcher to work in the laboratory of Prof. Mike Ritchie at the University of St Andrews for three years, in collaboration with Prof. Terry Smith. The project is also collaborative with colleagues at the University of Oxford and Jyvaskyla in Finland.
The aim is to develop CRISPR techniques to manipulate gene expression in a range of species of Drosophila, to conduct analyses of gene expression and metabolomics changes during cold acclimation of Drosophila, and to relate these to the natural niche and phylogenetic history of the species. Together this will provide a novel approach to understanding the evolution of mechanisms of cold adaptation and tolerance in species from different niches.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic evolutionary or geneticist with an interest in developing advanced techniques for examining gene function in a range of species. A PhD is essential and a work permit will be required for non-European citizens.
The work will be based at the Centre for Biological Diversity at the University of St Andrews, Scotland and will potentially involve visits to collaborators.
Contact Mike Ritchie for further details (mgr@st-andrews.ac.uk) or follow links. PLEASE NOTE that formal applications cannot be made to Mike, but must be submitted via the University vacancies link below.
The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, which is further demonstrated through its working on the Gender and Race Equality Charters and being awarded the Athena SWAN award for women in science, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter; http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
